Explore if Domain Specific Languages (DSL) can be of added value!
What is this kit all about?
Over a span of 15 years, ESI has made 35+ DSLs for at least 7 companies, accounting for more than 36 person-years of development effort. Out of these DSLs, more than 50% were adopted and used by industry in some way with another 10% expected to be adopted in the future. Other DSLs have demonstrated interesting concepts and generated valuable insights for ESI and industry. We developed a kit to disseminate our knowledge to you! This kit helps you to gain awareness about Domain Specific Languages, how you can possibly benefit from this technology and how you can recognize opportunities in your company.
The objectives for this kit are to get:
- Awareness around the pros and cons of Domain Specific Languages
- Knowledge about what Domain Specific Languages are and where you can use them for
- Assessing your current state and see whether a DSL is the right solution for you.
Is this kit relevant for you & your organisation?
The kit consists of some stand-alone materials like a generic video about DSLs, a case example of Signify and background providing articles. These materials are especially combined for technical managers, (software) architects and developers. It gives a high-level feeling for the technology and how it can be embedded in your organisation. Another part of the kit is a hands-on workshop. This workshop is 2 times 4 hours and can be followed by software developers to see how DSL technology fits the company's infrastructure. ESI together with industry created a competence profile around creation, implementation, maintenance and usage of DSLs which makes this more formal. To get further dialogue started in your organisation, we added two dialogue sessions with four statements to have the necessary discussions. If you need any additional support e.g. in creating DSLs for a certain purpose, this is definitely possible with support by us or our partners.
